What is the best thing that has ever happened to you?

I’ve had many amazing experiences in my life but the best thing has to be meeting my husband Michael.

We actually met during orientation week in college and were dating within about two weeks. We’ve been together ever since and just celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary!

Getting to go through formative experiences in life with such a supportive partner and best friend is something that I am infinitely grateful for!

What is your favorite part about being a woman?

I love being able to dispel stereotypes and be a leader for young girls.

There are so many social norms about what a girl ought to like, how she ought to behave, how she ought to dress, etc.

I love showing girls that it’s ok to be smart, pursue higher education, take charge, and wear whatever makes you feel confident and fabulous!

Who is your favorite role model?

There are so many women who inspire me daily. However, the one woman that I will always look up to is my mother.

She is a ray of sunshine and brightens up the room with her big smile. She’s an excellent listener and makes people feel important. She’s also full of encouragement and one of my biggest supporters.

I strive to make others feel the way she makes me feel all the time!

What is your dream in life?

One of my dreams is to receive a PhD in Developmental Psychology. I joke with Michael (who is in medical school right now) that I want us both to be doctors so that when somebody calls for Dr. Kitchin we can both say, “Yes?” and confuse them.

Are you following your dream?

I’m getting there! I’m working on my MA right now in Human Development and Social Intervention. Once I finish, the plan is to get into a doctoral program and work towards my PhD.

Have you ever been published in a print or digital magazine before?

I haven’t, this is my first time and I’m so excited about it!

If you could only eat one meal – or food – for the rest of your life… What would it be?

This is the most challenging question ever. I think I would have to go with hot wings and fries. I eat it at least once every two weeks and never get tired of it!

What’s one place in the world that you haven’t been to, but are dying to visit/

I would love to visit Spain. The architecture looks beautiful and I seriously need to try authentic paella. I also took Spanish in high school and college so maybe that would prevent me from getting completely lost (I am terrible with directions).

What’s most important to you?

Definitely my family. They’re my support system and I definitely wouldn’t have made it through so much school without their constant encouragement.

What’s the worst line a guy has ever used on you?

I was on my college campus and a man with a thick Spanish accent came walking up to me and said, “I have a problem.” I thought he was going to tell me he was lost and needed directions but instead he followed it with, “your number is not in my phone.” I don’t think I’ve ever rolled my eyes so hard before.

What’s even worse is after I turned him down and left, he walked up to the girl coming up behind me and used the exact same line!

What’s a random fact about yourself?

I have a ridiculous hatred for ketchup. I don’t want it anywhere near my food and I despise the smell. I even ask my husband to brush his teeth before kissing me if he ate it during his meal (yes, I am that extra).

Have you ever traveled out of your home country?

For my honeymoon last December, my husband and I traveled to Ottawa and Montreal in Canada. I’ve lived in Florida my whole life and was completely unprepared for the -6° F weather that we faced the entire week. I wore about three layers of clothing and my coat and still froze in minutes.

The cities, however, were gorgeous! In Ottawa we did a walking food tour which included just us (because what other tourists are crazy enough to visit Canada in the dead of winter). We had so much food all to ourselves. It was delicious!

In Montreal, we toured the Notre Dame Basilica which was absolutely stunning. I want to visit both cities again in the summer when I can stay outside for more than two hours at a time!

What type of style (referring to clothes) would you say fits you best or that you wear the most?

I’d say my style fits into one of two categories: Comfy casual or classy and chic. 90% of the time I’m comfy casual and wearing jeans, t-shirts and sneakers or sandals.

However, on the rare occasion that I’m going out, I will go all out: Full hair, makeup, a dress or jumpsuit and a rocking pair of heels. There is no in-between for me!

Do you have a favorite Kardashian sister?

I’m actually terrible at keeping up with the Kardashians (overused joke, I’m sorry). So, I don’t really have a favorite sister. I do, however, keep up with the jokes about Kris Jenner being the most extra momager of all times.

I loved her portrayal of Mrs. George in the ‘Thank U, Next’ music video. I feel like that role was made for her!

Have you ever gotten plastic surgery?

I respect women’s decisions to get work done but I’ve never had any done myself. As of right now, I have no intention of getting plastic surgery.

I’ve watched so many episodes of “Botched” that even if there was something I considered getting done, I think I would be terrified of the procedure going wrong!

What do you want to be remembered as?

These questions have me thinking deep…I love it!

I want to be remembered as someone who truly cared about people and worked to improve their lives. I am incredibly privileged and understand that not everyone has the opportunities that I did growing up.

I want to use my current position to eliminate barriers, particularly for children, so that all of them have the opportunity to succeed and pursue their dreams.
